First Line: "Long ago and far away in the land of ice and snow, there came a time when it seemed that winter would never end."
About: Lass, an ordinary young woman growing up in endless cold winters of Norway, frees a magical white reindeer and in return is given a gift that will alter her life. Now with the power to speak to animals, Lass is sought after by many to help with animal problems, but when a polar bear seeks her help, Lass is swept up in a magical mystery involving gargoyles, trolls and bewitched princes.
My Thoughts: If you are familiar with my blog you are probably familiar with my love of fairy tales! I enjoyed Lass and her adventures with her pet wolf, Rollo. I found the Lass was an inquisitive and strong female character. My only dislike was that the ending seemed to happen very rapidly.
Highlights: Magical, Menacing, Easy
Readalikes:You will enjoy other Jessica Day George books and try "Entwined" by Heather Dixon and "East" by Edith Pattou. Also look for books by Gail Carson Levine, Shannon Hale and Donna Jo Napoli.
